【トーヤマ ミカ】1983年10月生まれ

水木しげる ゲゲゲの鬼太郎・悪魔くん、漫画家 冨樫義博が大好きな幼少期を過ごす。尚、近所のレンタルビデオ屋に脚繁く通い ゲゲゲの鬼太郎アニメ第1〜第2シリーズを全て制覇するくらいには偏執的な幼児だった模様。
父のカーステレオから流れる昭和歌謡を切っ掛けに、ポップスやロックを強迫的な勢いで手当り次第にレンタルで借りては聴きまくるティーンネイジャー時代を過ごす。

高校の授業で触れたシルクスクリーンに興味を持ち、数年の放蕩期間を経て版画科に進学。師弟関係の講師としょっちゅうズケズケ言い合っては喧嘩をし、版画工房の仲間たちを何度もハラハラさせる。見かねた工房主任講師に「みんな、仲良く！(怒)」と何度か本気で怒られる。
そんな感じであまり素行の良い学生ではなかったが、アルバイトと酒に明け暮れつつもナントカ卒業する。

2007年 第75回日本版画協会展 入選
2007年〜3年ほど 制作会社にて医学イラスト、医学書、介護・看護教本、大学広告等の制作に従事
2012年 ジョニー志田主催 DJ BAR 中野 smash’07で3日間のイベント+個展開催

その後 干支一回り程度 世を忍ぶ仮の姿の一般事務員として 小さなバーなどでたまにDJをやったりしながら のんべんだらりと過ごすが 周囲の善なる人々に いい加減に描くなり書くなりしろと再三背中を押され(怒られたともいう) 観念してアート制作や文章作成の道に舞い戻り現在に至る。

Artist Profile

[Mika Toyama] Born in October 1983

Mika spent her childhood obsessed with GeGeGe no Kitaro and Akuma-kun by Shigeru Mizuki, as well as the works of manga artist Yoshihiro Togashi. Apparently, she was the kind of kid who would visit the local video rental shop so often that she ended up watching every single episode of the first and second series of GeGeGe no Kitaro. A little obsessive? Definitely.

Her teenage years were marked by a compulsive love for pop and rock music, sparked by Showa-era tunes playing from her dad’s car stereo. She would borrow CDs at random and binge-listen to everything she could get her hands on.

In high school, she discovered silkscreen printing and fell in love with it. After a few wild years, she enrolled in a printmaking program. There, she often clashed with her mentor—loudly and unfiltered—which made her fellow students constantly nervous. The head instructor, exasperated, had to step in more than once with a stern, “Everyone, get along!!” Not exactly the model student, Mika somehow managed to graduate while juggling part-time jobs and a fair share of drinking.

2007 – Selected for the 75th Japan Print Association Exhibition
2007–2010 – Worked at a production company creating medical illustrations, textbooks, nursing guides, and university ads
2012 – Held a three-day solo show + event at DJ BAR Nakano smash’07, organized by Johnny Shida

After that, she spent about 12 years living a low-key double life as an ordinary office worker, occasionally DJing at small bars. But thanks to persistent (and sometimes furious) encouragement from good-hearted people around her, she finally gave in and returned to art and writing. And that brings us to the present.
